What is Integrative Health Coaching?

Integrative Health Coaching (IHC) empowers you to make lasting health behavior changes that are the foundations of lifelong well-being. It bridges the gap between your health goals and your abilities to successfully implement those goals into your complex life.

The coach helps you develop and realize your optimal health vision through clarifying what you want, exploring options, and providing accountability to take action.

How Does Integrative Health Coaching Work?

  • A Coach’s responsibility is to help identify what stage of change you are in, and accept and meet you where you are at.

  • Coaches work with the whole person. Coaches spend time exploring what is most important to your health and allow you to choose your course of action to help you make your desired change.

  • A Coach will utilize various tools and applied theories to facilitate inquiry, personal discovery and self-efficacy such as the Duke Integrative Medicine Wheel of Health, The Transtheoretical Model (Stages of Change), Motivational Interviewing, and Positive Psychology, Self-determination Theory, Appreciative Inquiry, Flow Theory, Nonviolent Communication, Design Thinking, and Social Cognitive Theory.

  • Coaches guide you through a process to maximize the possibility of your success.

  • Coaches help you identify obstacles to change and create strategies for moving forward toward your goal.

  • Coaches support you in tracking your weekly progress and hold you accountable for your commitments.

  • Coaches can provide additional resources for making behavior changes

  • Sessions can take place over the telephone, FaceTime/Skype, or in person.
